Copyright and Fair Use

A critical piece of an instructor's preparation includes knowing what constitutes fair use of an article or chapter selected in order to educate students.

The Association of Research Libraries has compiled a code to assist:

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) announces the release of the Code of Best Practices in Fair Use for Academic and Research Libraries, a clear and easy-to-use statement of fair and reasonable approaches to fair use developed by and for librarians who support academic inquiry and higher education.

Note that a code of practice is not a law, but a best-guess at applying the principles involved.
